Whether for shopping or sightseeing, Bangkok never fails its visitors. A perfect blend of traditional and modern, this capital city of Thailand has been a popular tourist destination for a long time. It is no wonder that many hotels are well equipped to make their guests’ stay as comfortable as possible, especially after a tiring day.

For first timers in Bangkok like myself, Hua Chang Heritage Hotel along Phayathai Road is highly recommended. Its proximity to two BTS stations of different lines and some of the city’s major shopping centers are just some of the reasons why this boutique hotel should be your first choice.

A beautifully designed seven-story building near a bustling intersection, Hua Chang Heritage Hotel takes its name from Hua Chang Bridge, built during the reign of King Rama V. It boasts 75 elegantly styled guest rooms and a wide array of facilities and amenities for that complete luxurious experience. The hotel is the latest addition to the Baiyoke Group of Hotels, and it exudes a Thai contemporary architectural style, combining both Thai and Western elements in every aspect of the property.

My friend Aika and I had the chance to stay in this posh hotel for two nights during our recent trip to Bangkok. As expected, it exceeded our expectations.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE PROPERTY

Probably one notable feature of Hua Chang Heritage Hotel is its accessibility to shopping centers and train stations. The hotel is found between the Ratchathewi station of the Silom Line and the National Stadium station of the Sukhumvit Line. You may go to either station as both are relatively of the same distance, and meet at the Siam station should you need to change trains.

The same goes for shopping centers. MBK Center is connected to the National Stadium station, and just across it is Siam Discovery. From here you can access all the other malls – Siam Center, Siam Paragon, Siam Square One, among others.

I found some unique things in Hua Chang Heritage Hotel during my stay. First, the room numbers are placed on the floor. I never saw it until we were led to our room, and the staff pointed at the spot by the door. I’m not sure if other hotels have it this way, but it was a first time for me, and I found it very cool.

Also found in the room is a touch screen control panel that, well, controls almost everything. From temperature to lights to alarm, this tablet has it all covered. It is placed in a drawer by the bed, making it easy to access. The staff will teach you how to use it when you enter the room so no worries for the technologically challenged.

THE STAFF

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting the kind of service and attention that the staff of Hua Chang Heritage Hotel showed us. I was especially impressed by how they welcomed us when we arrived before the official check-in time. It was also very nice of Annie, the hotel’s PR manager, to meet us upon arrival and offered a tour of the hotel. After leaving our bags in our assigned room, she showed us the other kinds of rooms that they have while sharing some information about the hotel.

THE ROOM

The best part of our stay here in Hua Chang Heritage Hotel are, of course, staying in their lovely rooms for two nights. As mentioned, Annie was kind enough to show us the different types of rooms that they have.

Here’s a look at our Premiere Deluxe room:

All 80 guest rooms come in three colors — magenta, purple, and cobalt blue. These were inspired by the colors of the Thai lotus flowers. Each room also has a partial view of the garden and pool below.

THE FOOD

We were treated to a feast during our stay in Hua Chang Heritage Hotel. Our first gastronomic experience in their Miss Siam Restaurant was during lunch after our arrival. We were offered two different lunch sets, Chaba and Champa.

Here’s a closer look at each dish found in each set. Take note that each one may seem like tiny servings but having them all together in one sitting will leave you very full.

The following morning, we had our breakfast also in Miss Siam. Their breakfast buffet is open from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. (if I’m not mistaken) and offers a wide array of both Thai and Western cuisine. It’s a great way for guests to have a taste of authentic Thai food without leaving the hotel premises.

Our third encounter with the delicious offerings of Miss Siam is through their Thai afternoon tea experience known as Sri-Tong. The set is for two people and includes your choice of tea that will be served in a refillable pot and bite-sized Thai favorites that will, again, make you feel very full right after.

INSIDER TIPS

1. Hua Chang Heritage Hotel maximizes the space in each room. Make sure to check the drawers and closets as you might find other amenities such as the mini fridge, coffee, and water heater.

2. There is also an in-room mood music (as I called it). The controls are by the sink in the bathroom area.

3. For those with multiple gadgets, the wifi connection here works with one password per device. You may consult with the reception for the additional connection.

WHAT TO DO AROUND/WITHIN THE AREA

1. Mall hopping – As previously mentioned, Hua Chang Heritage Hotel is within walking distance to majority of the malls in the Pathum Wan area. You can literally walk from one shopping center to another from one’s exit to the next’s entrance.

2. Jim Thompson House – The former home of American entrepreneur Jim Thompson is now a museum that houses his collection of Thai structures and artifacts. It consists of six traditional Thai houses and is one of the city’s popular tourist destinations.

3. Chatuchak Weekend Market – If you happen to be in Bangkok during the weekends, then don’t miss the much talked about Chatuchak Weekend Market. As the largest market in Thailand, it has more than 8,000 market stalls that sell almost anything and everything, from souvenirs to furniture, and even pets. From Hua Chang Heritage Hotel, walk towards the Ratchathewi BTS station and take the train going to Mo Chit station. Alight at this station and go through Exit 1, or follow the crowds as they make their way downstairs and head toward the market.

Note: The hotel stay is sponsored by Hua Chang Heritage Hotel, but the opinions in this review are my own.

Special thanks to Phattareeya Phattaratarathip (Annie) and to everyone in Hua Chang Heritage Hotel for being so hospitable during our stay.
