Over the past year, we’ve been proud to help promote the World Nomads Travel Scholarships programme which aim to promote and nurture aspiring talent in the world of all kinds of travel media. So far we have promoted two of their projects; 2016 World Nomads Travel Writing Scholarship to Australia; and the 2016 World Nomads Travel Film Scholarship to Vietnam, both of which gave aspiring travel writers and filmmakers the opportunity to work on a real assignment with leading industry professionals. We absolutely love the World Nomads Travel Scholarship program, as travel writing has been the single biggest positive change in our lives together and individually.
Now we’re happy to announce the next of the series of World Nomads Travel Scholarships – to The Balkans!
How does the 2017 World Nomads Travel Writing Scholarship Work?
World Nomads is going to send three budding travel writers on a unique travel writing assignment to different parts of the Balkans, starting with a three day travel writing workshop with a leading professional travel writer, followed by a 10 day road trip across various parts of the Balkans using planes, trains and automobiles.
3 day custom travel writing workshop
As with the 2016 Travel Writing Scholarship to Australia, three applicants will be selected to learn all about professional travel writing with one-on-one tuition from leading professional travel writer, Tim Neville.
10 day Balkan road trip
After the workshop, each applicant will have the chance to create a customised 10-day travel itinerary to experience the best that the Balkans have to offer, then write all about it.

How to apply for the 2017 World Nomads Travel Writing Scholarship to The Balkans:
1. Write a 2500 character travel story around one the following there themes; Making a connection; Out of my comfort zone; A place I’ll never forget. A panel of judges will be assessing the entries, looking for three pieces of writing which demonstrate a true sense of adventure and a passion for travel writing.
2. Select two countries you would like to visit in the Balkans on your road trip.
3. Complete the , including a short essay about why you think you should be selected.

1. Great descriptive ability (without getting flowery)
2. Well structured narrative and a strong eye for detail.
3. Ability to uncover a great travel story and tell it in a compelling way
4. Excellent spelling and grammar and a knack for avoiding clichés

Receive round-trip airfare from your country of residence to Dubrovnik, Croatia where you will transfer to Herceg Novi, Montenegro.
Attend an exclusive travel-writing course under the mentorship of New York Times and Outside magazine contributor .
